Welcome

The word ‘Kangei’ literally means ‘Welcome’ in Japanese and just like our namesake we are warm, friendly and welcoming to all who wish to learn Judo. Kangei is now the largest Judo club in Essex offering a highly experienced, friendly coaching team who love to introduce Judo to new people as well as progressing those who already enjoy the sport.

Kangei Judo Club is one big family that welcomes anybody regardless of their background, income, or origin; we are always inclusive.

Kangei is a club run by its members and wouldn’t be where it is today without all of the support from each and every one of them. From staffing the reception or tuck shop to simply ensuring our kids arrive for training each session. Everyone in turn gives their time, support, enthusiasm and ensures the club continues to be the great success it has become.

Club History

Kangei Judo Club was founded in May 2014, with a shared a goal and belief of creating a judo club that would be centred around the children and the community; everything would be about advancement, encouragement, and providing a safe environment in which the kids in the community would thrive in the sport. Any money that was made would be invested back into the club.

The club started out with a few second hand judo mats in a church hall in Basildon, and small a number of students, however, word of mouth meant that it quickly grew, welcoming more and more students. The club eventually moved to a bigger hall and were able to buy new mats with a grant from Sports England.  Since then Kangei J C has become the biggest judo club in Essex. Producing British and English Champions consistently for the last three years.

Kangei Judo Club has achieved its Club Mark. Was awarded Active Essex Community Club Of The Year 2017 and is part of the Children’s University. In 2018 Kangei JC Chairman, Colin Egleton was awarded British Judo Volunteer Of The Year.
